What the BROCK is going on?

"You don't know me, but you've been inside me, and that's why we're here today."

This was the opening line of the statement Brock Turner's victim gave after he'd received a 6 month sentence for sexually assaulting her.

"You don't know me, but you've been inside me ..."

I don't know about you, but those words made me feel a lot of emotions:

Horror
Sadness
Rage
Disgust
Anguish
Despair
Rage
Helplessness
Fear
More rage
and finally even more rage

I've wanted to write something about Brock for several days now, but it seemed like every time I sat down at my computer another story would surface and I would be thrown into another spiral of anger. It started with his laughable sentence and I was enraged. And then the media prefaced everything about his actions with the fact that he's a "star athlete" or a "once Olympic hopeful." Who gives a fuck that he can swim real fast??? Why is this important?? I raged a bit more. And I got stabby every time I saw his smug smiling yearbook photo instead of his jacked up, wild-eyed mug shot that was being withheld. And then his father wrote about his "twenty minutes of action" and I wanted to burn something to the ground.

By then I was so angry it was like I had burned myself out completely. I thought, "What the hell can I possibly say that hasn't already been said? What good will it do for me to just yell into the void like everyone else? Why bother? Nothing will ever change."

And then today I read the victim's statement.

"You don't know me, but you've been inside me ..."

Those words sucked all of the air out of the room.

Can you imagine????

Unfortunately so many of you can, and this thought is what breaks my heart and infuriates me all at the same time.

And then I read the end of the victim's statement:

"Although I can’t save every boat, I hope that by speaking today, you absorbed a small amount of light, a small knowing that you can’t be silenced, a small satisfaction that justice was served, a small assurance that we are getting somewhere, and a big, big knowing that you are important, unquestionably, you are untouchable, you are beautiful, you are to be valued, respected, undeniably, every minute of every day, you are powerful and nobody can take that away from you. To girls everywhere, I am with you."

THIS. ALL OF THIS is why I need to say something and so I'm joining the fray.

I don't have anything new or enlightening to add. So I'll just add my voice and say:

Fuck you, Brock Turner. You're a piece of shit who got off so easily it's mind-boggling. You're a liar and a rapist. You are an entitled fucker whose father bailed him out and will probably continue to bail you out your whole life. Yes, you will be a registered sex offender and I take some solace in that, but I know that your daddy will pull some strings and you'll end up tucked away in some private bank or law firm and you'll be just fine. So quit your sniveling and own up to what you did.

Fuck you, Mr. Turner. Your son is a product of your upbringing and your coddling. The fact that you would whine to the judge that your Brock's sentence is too harsh is astounding. Do you have a daughter? A wife? A mother? Would you feel this way if one of Brock's swim-buddies raped your wife behind a dumpster?

Fuck you, Mrs. Turner. Where are you in all of this?

Fuck you, Judge Persky. You are absolutely unbelievable. You're proving that cronyism is a real thing at Stanford. You practically gave Brock Turner the "super secret Sanford elite athlete handshake" with that sentence you handed down. You are everything I hate about the Ivy League.

Fuck you, Brock Turner's Defense Attorney. I don't know your name and I don't give a shit what it is. You are the worst. You are disgusting. Stop blaming the victim!

Fuck men who violate women with their words, their eyes, their hands, and their penises!!!!!!

I hope that judge is duly censured for what he has done. We have one in this area - the criminals must laugh like a drain when he pops up at their trial.
