Week 2 of My Transformation

Well, I'm gearing up this morning for my second work out this week with my new personal trainer, Kris, at Starting Line Fitness.

I just hope she reads this and takes it easy on me today, because she really kicked my ass on Tuesday - I'm still hobbling along because muscles I never even knew existed are sore.  I arrived on Tuesday in a bad mood and I think she tried get me to a happy place with exercise and that runner's high/endorphin shit doesn't work with me.  Instead, as the hour progressed the black cloud over my head just kept getting darker and darker.  I'm not sure how many times I muttered, "Son.  Of.  A.  Bitch." but I'm pretty sure it was a lot.  I'm positive I yelled it when she showed me this contraption:

It's a set of ropes suspended from the ceiling.  (No, it's not a sex swing, you pervs.)  It's for reverse push ups or some such nonsense.  I don't know what they're called, but they're my own personal hell. You basically hang on to the loops and lean waaaaaayyy back so you're reclined and then you pull yourself up.  Just when you get high enough for it not to hurt anymore you go back down to more pain.  I think I did these three separate times on Tuesday.  I'm such a Pillsbury Dough Girl that I actually got blisters on this stupid thing.  I doubt I will ever like this one.

Tuesday was the first time I didn't enjoy our workouts together.  Yup, I said "enjoy" and "workout" in the same sentence.  Did you feel that?  The Earth stopped rotating for just a millisecond when I typed that.  I actually do enjoy our time together.  Kris has been a great motivator and she always has a good story to tell me when I'm trying not to think about how many more (fucking) reps I need to do.  Just when I'm sick of one activity it's time to move to the next.  Plus, she lets me throw things:

These are big old medicine balls (remember "Big Bertha" from gym class??) that I get to throw and/or slam into the ground repeatedly.  Forget punching anyone, this is the way to go.

Tuesday was harder because it was the day to up the ante.  When I complained to her at the end of our session that she'd kicked my ass she just smiled and said, "I have to constantly help you improve."  I wanted to smack that smile off her face . . .UNTIL.

Until yesterday when I started taking notice of the changes to my body.  In two short weeks with Kris I am already seeing results of my hard work.  My pants are looser and that jiggly stuff under my arms is getting firmer.  My energy level is through the roof.  I'm not going to run a marathon this weekend or anything crazy like that, but I am getting a lot more done because I have more energy during the day.  Now if Kris could just devise an exercise that would take my boobs down a cup and half I'd be ecstatic.

I didn't keep any measurements at the beginning, so I'm going to measure myself today so I can see where I am in another two weeks.

Every day Kris puts up a new motivational quote on her workout board and I really liked this one the other day:

"I hated every minute of training, but I said,  'Don't quit.  Suffer now and live the rest of your life a CHAMPION.'" - Mohammad Ali

Now, I'm ready to put my on my (baggy) workout pants and head over there in a couple of hours.  But then I can have ice cream as my reward, right?

PS. My book is ready for orders.  Click here for the details.  Thanks.

Great quote!! Keep going, you are inspiring many of us to get off the couch and keep going!

Impressed, inspired, motivated, a little jealous. I think I need to go the personal trainer route to take the next step in my own fitness but I haven't been able to pull the trigger. Keep at it and thanks for sharing!

I must let you in on a secret... you likely WILL lose about a cup size, if not more. The fatty tissue that compose the breasts will also diminish with the rest of the fat on your body. AND it's usually one of the first places to go. You will not only need a smaller band size but cup size too, how's that for good news?! Keep it up! Great job!!

That rope thingy actually looks kind of fun. I know. I'm weird. Throwing balls?? I love it!!! If anything, you need to keep up with Gomer and Adolpha. Way to go!

I started a similar program back in May. I turned 40 this year as well, the kids aren't babies anymore, and I thought it was time for some ME time. I meet with the PT 3 hours a week. I still dread the meetings and I suffer, sweat, curse, laugh... But, I have lost 5 lbs of fat, gained 1 lb of muscle, and reduced the size of my thighs by 3". I can see results and I'm proud of my accomplishments so far. I am seeing muscles I haven't seen in 20 years. Hang it there. It's worth it!

Results are the best motivation! Keep it up! We enjoy hearing about your pain. Victories. I meant victories. Yes. That's it. Ha!

You need to get some weight lifting gloves. That will help with the blisters. I use the men's because they have a wrist support and the (female) trainer at my gym said they are better than the women's gloves. She is short also and she said she wears the men's small. I've found the wrist support helps with pushups, triceps dips, etc.

Great job! I'm a big fan of exercise, although I hate it while I'm doing it. But I always feel so good afterward that it's worth it. You'll get there too - the soreness will pass for the most part.

BTW, I highly recommend buying some weight training gloves to wear while you're working on those ropes. They'll prevent your hands from getting calloused and blistered. Harbinger makes some nice ones for women.

Im doing the SAME THING. Damn thing is called the TRX. Pain. Grumbling and lots of I HATE THIS &$&%!!!! But I have lost 4 lbs and 4 inches off my waste in 7 weeks. I am tons stronger...for all my "punches".

You can do it! You will get stronger, but the workouts won't get easier (that kind of defeats the purpose). You will be AMAZED about the things you can do though! I started CrossFit a couple months ago and I can already do one-handed handstands and 200lb deadlifts. (I weigh 149lbs and I'm 5'6" for reference). :)

The TRX!! I am attempting the wholes"transformation" thing also. I was the last person in the world who anyone would think would start working out consistently, but I finally decided for myself that I didn't want to die young, have chronic illness or become a physical burden to my husband and kids one day. Plus, I was tired (literally) of being a fat ass! You are right: your energy levels skyrocket and your happiness and self-confidence go through the roof! (Sorry...just noticed a typo above but cannot edit it for some odd reason on this iPad). Good going! Keep up the hard work. It is so worth it!! I have lost 40 pounds so far; seriously, if I can do it, you will have no problem! Also, it is awesome that you are posting about your transformation as it will help you stay accountable and give you tons of positive encouragement! Good going!!

Two words - Orange Leaf - if ice cream is one of the best indulgences you can have, frozen yogurt must be down right healthy!

Yay, Jen! Yesterday I went to my small-group class that sounds a lot like what you're doing. It was "lower body workout" day. I had jello legs afterwards and today my hammies are sooooo sore. Do you do deadlifts? Those things kill me the next day every. single. time.

Um, yeah. If she does find an exercise that gets you down more than a cup size, PLEASE let us know about it!

Maybe I need a personal trainer. I've been doing Insanity faithfully for the past 4+ weeks. It's kicked my ass every time, yet I haven't lost a single pound and my clothes fit exactly the same. So hard to stay motivated when not seeing any results!

I love that quote - you never know Sugar, you may very well like that rope contraption one day, maybe, lol.

Im no trainer but I do know a couple of things, for Cat who asked about an exercise to reduce the breasts - you can't make the body burn fat in a specific area, just do cardio/burn FAT, it will come off when it feels like it. :) Also, Andrea, exercise alone will NEVER take off weight, your diet is 80% of it. You can not out train a poor diet, trust me, I have tried. Its a daily battle girls, let's get with it! I am off to see my bitch, er uh, trainer now. :)
