Gomer Hates GoDaddy

Did you watch the Super Bowl Sunday night? Usually the Hubs and I watch the game together. Not because we're big football fans, but because we enjoy the commercials. This year I got a pass, because Gomer was finally old enough to stay up and do some father/son bonding with the Hubs. I sent them to the basement and I curled up with a book. Bliss!

The next day I asked Gomer if he had a favorite commercial. Instead of telling me which one he loved, he told me which one he hated.

"GoDaddy. Yuck," he said. (If you haven't seen it, watch below.)

"Yuck?" I asked. "Why?"

"There was a beauty and a brains and they were eating each other's faces. It was gross!"

"Beauty and brains?"

"Yeah, there was a pretty girl who was the beauty. And then this other guy . . . who was . . . uh . . . he was all red and splotchy. They were trying to eat each other."

"Ewww," I said.

"I know! And their tongues! Mom, they almost touched."

May he never grow up.

  1. That was a pretty fucking gross commercial. But they are getting plenty of attention from it so I guess they exceeded in getting noticed. It wasn't even the kiss that was so awful but the SLURPING sounds were what make me want to puke.

  2. HAHAHAHA... the fact that he called it "trying to eat each other" has me cracked up! But, I'm with him, it was the yuckiest commercial of the night!

  3. Gomer is a smart kid! And he ad was gross! We had 4 generations watching it and it was unanimous! His comment reminds me of something funny! I was breast feeding my daughter( in the privacy of my own home!) and my step- grandson came in. He was 4 at the time. He asked, " Why is she biting you?!" I just laughed! I really don't remember my reply!

  4. Hey, at least they didn't show the version that involved the touching tongues....

  6. Hands down most offensive GoDaddy commercial ever. Please please please just go back to Danica Patrick in a bikini or nothing or whatever she wears.

  7. Worst. Commercial. EVER. Gomer's a smart one.

  8. The sounds? Yes. The sounds were EXACTLY the sounds my Akita makes when he licks his asshole. And oddly, I find that a lot less objectionable than that Go Daddy commercial.

  13. Hahahaha!! I agree with him, it was gross, but then I couldn't stop watching. I can't believe he didn't tell you about the Taco Bell one with the old people and the condoms. Favorite hands down.

  15. Yeah, my stomach turned on that one. I don't care who they are, I don't need to see people making out that up close. Blech.

  21. I have to say I may be the only person who liked this one. Don't get me wrong, it grossed me out with all the juicy noises but I made me want to puke and laugh at the same time. Very effective!

  22. I'm with Gomer. The Go Daddy commercial totally skeeved me out. It made me very happy that I used Blue Host instead of them for my website -- I didn't help pay for that ad. :)

  27. My seven year old agrees with Gomer. And this is a boy who doesn't think girls have cooties, he actually likes them and wants to be friends with them! He said "Ewww! It looks like they're eating each other. And THAT is gross."

Well said, little man. Well said.

  28. It was disgusting! I don't want to even watch TWO attractive people kiss that up close. But the part that really skeeved me out is the boy looks like he's about 14.

  29. I wonder how much opinions would change if the guy/boy was as attractive as the girl. No judgement, just wondering.

    1. It was the slurping sounds that did me in. And the actor looked too young. It wouldn't have been so bad with an older geeky guy and SILENT kissing

  30. Yeah...the slurping....barf! Good eye, Gomer!

  32. As long as our kids are getting the right message... smart = overweight and pale and hot women are turned on by calling men "daddy". THAT skeeves me out more than the kiss...

  33. This is awesome Jen!!! My Wife and I looked at each other and said, "This is still National Television right?" I honestly didn't think this ad would get aired and I can only imagine what my 5 year old nephew would have said after seeing this commercial!

  34. What made me more sick than the makeout...was looking at her face when she pulled away. You can see that she is trying to not gag and puke. Hope the paycheck was worth it honey! YUCK

  35. I agree with Gomer. I do not want to watch anyone make out, much less that car wreck. I found it offensive on so many levels. Did anyone else feel that the "beauty" was probably several years older than the "brains"? Don't really know what they were trying accomplish other than an extreme reaction. I was an Advertising major in college, and I remember being taught that creativity was great as long as is serves its purpose; to gain recognition and sell the product; if creativity doesn't do this, it's missed the point.

  37. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.

  38. If I saw that commercial at an impressionable age, I would never want to touch lips with anyone, ever. I would still be single, living in my mom's basement.

Gomer may live with you forever, in which case, you will have gotten your wish for him to never grow up.

  39. Yes my 5YO boy was VERY interested in this commercial but at the end declared "yuck!" I also had to explain the Calvin Klein commercial when my 3YO daughter asked "what's that?" I told them that it was men with big muscles in their underwear. They both declared that they wanted big muscles too.

  40. I wanted to throw up on myself! I had to cover my ears, the same way I do when watching a scary movie and someone is being sawed in half!!

  41. I totally agree...the sound effects were the yuckiest part!!! I sure hope there was hazard pay in it for the "beauty". She certainly deserved it, I would have thrown up a little myself.
