I am so sick of sharing accurately reported facts about how 1 in 5 women is sexually assaulted on Facebook to receive laughing emojis. What the fuck is wrong with people?

I have had similar experiences to you, as I'm sure most of us have and I am so frustrated that in 2018 this is still the case. I have as much right not to be groped on the street, or not to have a finger stuck in my underwear at a bar as much a man has that right, period. In short, most men never have to consider their personal safety while most women do these things on autopilot. When I shared this with my husband, he was pretty floored by the realization. It led to an interesting conversation, including my me too moment which I have never shared before with anyone.

hold my keys as a potential weapon
check the backseat before getting in the car
always carry a cell phone
don't go jogging/walking at night
be careful not to drink too much
never put your drink down and come back to it
make sure you see your drink being poured
own a big dog
carry mace/pepper spray
have an unlisted number
have a male voice on your voice mail
park in well lit areas
be wary in parking garages
don't get on an elevator with a lone man/group of men
vary your route home from work
what what you wear
don't use highway rest areas
have and use a home alarm system
don't wear headphones while jogging/walking
avoid wooded areas even in the daytime
never rent first floor apartments
only go out in groups
always meet in a public place for a first date
make sure you have alternate ways of getting home
don't make eye contact with men on the street
make sure your family/friends know your itinerary
have extra locks/security
Make sure the garage is completely closed before you drive away
leave outside lights on all night
lock car doors as soon as you get in

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
