Competitive Crafters, Drop-Off Despots, and Other Suburban Scourges is COMING!

So, in case you've missed the memo the 1,347 times I've sent it out, let me fill you in: I'VE GOT A BOOK COMING OUT IN SEPTEMBER.

Yeah, no big deal, right?

Are you kidding me?

Every time I think about September 9th, I find myself either laughing like a maniac, rocking in a corner close to tears, or trapped in the bathroom with nervous diarrhea.

I've been working on People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Competitive Crafters, Drop-Off Despots, and Other Suburban Scourges since .... forever!! It's been a year of me trying to juggle writing my blog and writing and editing a manuscript while still being mother of the freaking year and a so-so wife (yeah, the Hubs totally got the shaft).

I know September 9th seems like a long way off, but really it's not. Already there are people out there reading PIWTPITT: Competitive Crafters, Drop-Off Despots and Other Suburban Scourges (I've got to pick a shorter title for the next book!) and they're (gasp!) strangers. Very few of them know about my blog and many have never read me. They're professional readers who do this shit all the time. They read books in advance and then load up Goodreads with their thoughts -- the good and the bad. (This is when the nervous diarrhea really kicks in!)

Every day I lock myself in the bathroom and check Goodreads to see if any new reviews have been added. Every day I hold my breath while I read. Every day I've been thrilled. They like it! I've even been compared to Chelsea Handler (if she had kids) and David Sedaris (She said David Sedaris-eque but I'll take it).

This is my favorite review so far. I don't know the reviewer, Cameron, but I feel like I should send her a pie, because she totally rocks. Check out her review:

Funny, snarky and all-around relatable, People I Want to Punch in the Throat had me laughing from page one. Even though I am not a parent, Jen made her mommy-wars tales of woe accessible to anyone with a good sense of humor.

Jen has an almost David Sedaris-esq quality to her writing--dry, self deprecating--while still maintaining her own unique voice. The pace of this book is FAST. Short and engaging chapters convince you that you have time to read just one more section...and then you realize you've read for two hours, are late to that appointment and still can barely pull yourself away. I read dreading the final page and having to say goodbye to Jen and the quirky cast of characters in her life.

I really enjoyed this book and had fun cheering for Jen every step of the way. I very much hope she continues to write and we hear more from her in the future. I would (and will) highly recommend this book.

Am I right? Wouldn't you take Cameron to dinner or something?

You know what? Cameron is cool, but all of you guys who are here right now are AWESOME! YOU guys are the ones who started this crazy ride for me. YOU are the ones who found me and have stayed with me. YOU are the ones who continued to read and comment and encourage me. YOU are the ones who sent me emails that told me to keep writing. YOU are the ones who laughed with me (and at me). YOU are the ones who left reviews on Amazon and Goodreads for my other books. YOU are the ones who tell your friends they should read me. YOU are the reason why PIWTPITT: CCDD&OSS (see, I knew we could shorten it) has been my life for the last year.

YOU made my dreams come true!

I had a professor in college who laughed at me when I said I wanted to see my book on a store shelf someday. He told me that no one would buy a want ad that I wrote. This book is NOT for him. He can kiss my ass.

Want to keep helping me? Oh, thank you!! You can pre-order the book right here and when you do that, you can share on Facebook and Twitter that you just bought PIWTPITT: CCDD&OSS (only you should spell it out the first couple of times, because people won't know what the hell you're talking about). You can tell your book club that you've got the perfect book for September. You can tell your local bookstore that they should order it and put it in the front window. You can tell the woman behind you on line at Target that she should probably pre-order a copy too. It's like a public service announcement.

Thank you for all of your support. I have the best readers in the world!

You'd think *I* had a book coming out in this announcement. THAT'S how excited I am for you. I need to calm down. It's your book.
I pre-ordered the shit out of this book already. And I'll do it again. BOOM.

I absolutely can't wait to read it. Your writing ALWAYS makes me laugh and I read your Christmas book so much, I'm on my second copy. Your book is the ONLY reason this teacher can't wait until September
